The 2005-2006 season saw the Malton Ice Bears reborn as the Credit Valley Wolves, keeping intact a modern tradition of the eight Member Associations making up the MHL.
The development of our players
and coaches is fundamental in achieving these objectives.
Our motto embodies our spirit, HOCKEY… for fun,
fitness & friendship.
Philosophy
At Credit Valley Hockey Association our fundamental priority
is to ensure children have fun and develop to the best
of their ability, both on and off the ice. Respect for
others and fair play are two key values of the association.
The most important element in developing athletes is to
provide them with qualified coaches who provide a positive
learning environment with clear instruction and lots of
enthusiastic encouragement. We encourage open communication
as our ability to identify and address opportunities for
improvement is supported by the input we receive from
our families and players.
Programs
and Initiatives
Credit Valley is pleased to offer a “Wolf Cubs”
program for players age 4-6. These children play only
at Hershey Centre Arena each weekend. The objective is
to introduce players to the game in a structured, non-competitive
environment. The emphasis of the program is to teach hockey
fundamentals in a fun setting. For the first part of the
season the program focuses on practicing skating, shooting
and passing. Later in the season, games are introduced
to provide an opportunity to put the skills that have
been developed into practice. Every effort is made to
balance the overall skill levels of each team. The game
environment matches different lines which are comprised
of players with equivalent skill for each game. Every
player participates in their own “playoffs”
to conclude the season.
Credit Valley actively encourages
and supports the continuing education of coaches through
in-house coaching clinics and the CHA National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP), or the National Trainers
Certification Program (NTCP). All house league Head Coaches
in Credit Valley must be certified at the "Coach
Level" and all "A" team Head Coaches at
the "Intermediate Level" under the NCCP. As
well, Credit Valley strongly encourages all coaches to
obtain their Trainers Certificate. IP Instructors must
also be certified under the NCCP at the "Initiation
Program" level. All association volunteers are required
to obtain Police background checks in order to assume
any role with the organization.
The association is very fortunate
to receive strong financial support from generous sponsors
from the local business community. Sponsors help provide
funding for goalie equipment including pads, chest protector/arm
guards and gloves to each team up to the age of 12.
History
The Credit Valley Hockey Association evolved from the
Malton Minor Hockey Association that was founded in 1949.
The first MMHA executive in 1949, consisted of Alex MacPherson,
Ron MacNeil, Don Williams and Jack Weech. All of the interest
and hard work over the years by numerous Malton citizens
paid off handsomely, as thousands of boys participated
and benefited from the competitive spirit of and comraderie
of minor hockey. Some of the more famous graduates of
the M.M.H.A. include, Ron Ellis, Fred and Jack Stanfield
and of course Paul Coffey. The president for Malton’s
final year of operations was Ivan Elliot. Ivan and his
wife Leona were responsible for spearheading the actions
that resulted in the birth of the Credit Valley Wolves.
